What can and can't be repaired

A puncture in the tread area, within repairable limits, on a tire with decent tread left is a repair. A sidewall cut, a puncture at the shoulder, a tire that was driven flat until the inner liner shredded, or a tire with cords showing is not — patching those would be unsafe, and we won't do it.

We pull the tire off the wheel to inspect the inside. A plug pushed in from the outside without looking at the liner is how people end up flat again on the freeway.

Slow leaks count too

If you're topping off the same tire every week, bring it in. A slow leak is often a small puncture, a corroded wheel bead or a bad valve stem — all cheap fixes compared to driving on a chronically underinflated tire until it fails.
